REFILWE UPDATE
Posted by Linda Coyle
At the April 6 2011 club meeting, PDG Dean Rohrs gave the club an update on our
Refilwe project which she visited in March. Refilwe is a joint project
between three Districts: D9400 in South Africa, D5040 in Canada and
D3500 in Taiwan. She showed wonderful before and after pictures of the
kitchen and washroom facilities which were upgraded to serve as a
training facility. It is currently used to prepare meals for the
students, staff and volunteers.
Another part of the project was the building of a kindergarten/creche for preschool and kindergarten children. This facility requires the involvement of the parents in running the facility. The Refilwe projects are 100% sustainable.
Club members Michael Chiu, Magdalen Leung and John Yap will visit Refilwe in August 2011.
